In first grade, it is important to begin developing good homework habits at home. Your first grader will have reading, math, and Letterland homework each night.
Please know that I am flexible and understanding with homework. Homework is not factored into your child's report card grades. It is solely to help your child begin developing good homework habits and not meant to cause any extra stress at home. Find the routine that works best for you and your child!
- Reading: Students should set a goal to read/be read to for 15 minutes every night. You can always adjust the goal based on your child's needs.
- Math: Students will have a weekly math worksheet to complete. The worksheet will contain brief activities to complete each day of the week.
- Letterland: Students will have a weekly list of Letterland words to practice throughout the week. We will have a spelling test every Friday.

Every week we focus on 5-6 sight words ("tricky" words). Our job is to be able to automatically read and correctly spell these words not only in isolation, but also in reading/writing contexts. After this goal is accomplished, these words are put on our classroom Word Wall to be used as a reading/writing resource. This cycle repeats itself weekly throughout the year.
